An examination of Krakow’s architectural heritage is especially fascinating in the context of the city’s proximity to Vienna and its numerous historic ties with Austria. The texts and images in the exhibition turn the spotlight on two defining eras: the historic modernist period (1919-1939) and the pluralist modernist age from 1989 onwards. Both are hallmarked by major political and social changes, which – owing to a new-found independence – cast fundamental cultural characteristics in fitting architectural forms, as well as bringing unmistakeable modernisation to the construction sector.
